FAQ’s

Do I have to be referred by my dentist before I can schedule an appointment at Lake Country Orthodontics?

No, a referral is not necessary. Many of our patients are referred by their dentist, and many decide to schedule on their own. Our greatest compliment is when a patient in treatment or a former patient refers a friend or family member to us.

At what age should I get an orthodontic exam?

The American Association of Orthodontics recommends a screening to be done around the age of 7 when several permanent teeth have erupted.

What is the cost of an examination?

We offer every patient a free initial consultation exam.

How long will I have to wear braces?

Because each patient is so unique, treatment times vary. However, most treatments are completed in two years or less.

What is Phase One Treatment?

Phase One treatment is for children between the ages of 7 and 10 to address significant orthodontic problems. At this age treatment will prevent the problems from becoming more severe.

Does Dr. Noyce see children with baby teeth?

Yes. Some children have orthodontic problems that are significant and need early attention. If no treatment is needed, Dr. Noyce will monitor that child's growth and development until he determines the right time for treatment.

Do I continue to see my dentist while in braces?

Yes, it is very important that you see your dentist for regular checkups and cleanings. Dr. Noyce will be working closely with your dentist during your treatment.

Do braces hurt?

Generally, braces do not "hurt." At Lake Country Orthodontics the staff is very well trained to make you as comfortable as possible. There may be times when a certain tooth will be sore after an appointment. Taking Advil or Tylenol will usually take care of the discomfort. You can relax knowing that no shots are ever given because they are not needed for orthodontic treatment!

Is it okay if I play sports with braces on?

Yes. Dr. Noyce can provide a special mouth guard for you to use with your braces.

How often will I have appointments?

At Lake County Orthodontics our patients are scheduled every 6-8 weeks. Sometimes Dr. Noyce will require seeing the patient more frequently or not as often, depending on the stage of treatment.

Can I schedule all of my appointments after school?

We work hard to accommodate our patient’s busy lives. We do this by scheduling long appointments during school hours and shorter appointments after school. By doing this, we do not reserve an entire afternoon for three or four patients, but rather accommodate as many families as possible with afternoon appointments.

I'm an adult, is it too late to get braces?

Dr. Noyce treats many adults. As a matter of fact, the number grows larger every year with better education of dental health. 25% of all orthodontic patients nationwide are adults.

Is there an alternative to braces?

Yes, Invisalign is a series of invisible, removable, and comfortable aligners that no one can tell you are wearing. The aligners gradually move your teeth through the combination of Dr. Noyce's expertise and the latest in 3-dimensional computer graphic technology. To find out if Invisalign is right for you, give us a call to schedule a free consultation!

My family dentist says he can straighten my teeth. Why should I see an Orthodontist?

An orthodontist has 2-3 years of specialized training beyond dental school and is a specialist at straightening teeth and insuring proper form and function. A dentist may see a handful of cases a year amid drilling and filling. An orthodontist only practices orthodontics and treats hundreds of patients.
